Lobster Roll 2014 #11

July 26, 2014 The Place, Guilford CT

Tonight's lobster choice was not exactly a "lobster roll", but as this joint has made it on the top Lobsters in New England, I had to give it a shot.

The ambience was great.  Set in the back of the "restaurant" building.  Open fire pit/grill, tree trunk seating and small menu.  The menu was big enough for the seafood lovers and prices were decent.  My lobster choice was a 1 1/4lb boiled soft shelled. Lobster was easy to shuck and very tasty.  Corn on the cob was delicious.  I also had my first clams (besides in chowder) and they weren't as bad as I feared, actually had a second.  Desserts were great too!

We were able to BYOB and even sides.  We didn't need extra sides as the corn, seafood and veggiebob were plenty.

Lobster rating: 8, overall rating: 8.8
Happy eating!

Lobster Roll 2014 #10

July 13, 2014 Homemade, CT
As if I didn't have enough lobster this week, I had to complete it with my own "Classic" Lobster roll. I must say this roll ended my weekend perfectly.

2 fresh 1 1/2 lb Maine lobstahs boiled to perfection, cooled just enough to touch and then harvested from every hidden crevice.  Then I mixed most of the meat into a mixture of light mayo, diced celery, parsley and a little lemon joice.  This mixture was then topped into a carve out, broiled Italian roll.
I won't brag too much but my version of the "Classic" Lobstah Roll came out excellent.  The combined tastes left my mouth watering for more.

Rating: 9.0

Well 5 lobster rolls in 5 days is definitely a record for me this year.

Can't wait for the next.

Lobster Roll 2014 #9

July 12, 2014 Fishermen's Catch, Raymond, ME

One more for the way home.  This time their "classic".

As the thought of leaving Maine saddens me, it is the thought of leaving all the delicious Maine lobster behind that is more upsetting. While we were just planning on picking up some lobster for the caretakers of our pets and some for us back home, I debated one more roll for the trip.  My husband convinced me just do it and I am thankful he did.

As I sit and eat this hefty pound of sweet, mouth watering joy I am definitely turned on to the Maine/Cape style roll. As our CT Style rolls can be occasionally well over-buttered and over lemony the classic style with light mayo is exactly that - leaves a much lighter feeling in the gut.  This rolls blend of sweet meat and light mayo on a lightly toasted roll makes a great addition to my favorites.  It was even easy to eat in the car (not while driving).

Rating: 9.0

Some early seasons highs but definitely worth every tenth.  Maine has my favorites to-date.

Lobster Roll 2014 #8

July 10, 2014 The Galley Restaurant & Pub, Naples, ME

(5 star for the place itself)

Adam Richman voted the "Classic" here as best in the nation, I finally HAD to try my first mayo roll.

Okay back to the "Classic", this is northern New England style.  Light on the mayo, a wee bit heavy on the lemon pepper but very, very good.  Once again the freshest lobster meat.  The layer under the lemon pepper was scrumcious.  Rating: 8.7.

Note that the wing sauce is supposed to be to hot to touch and unedible but my husband and daughter thought nothing of it and said it was no big deal.

The Galley was a great restuarant.   Our waitress was super friendly and very efficient.

The Firecracker shrimp were some of the best ever shrimp we have all had.
and great chowdah too!!

Ok because Adam Richman voted the rolls here as the best lobster rolls New England, the decision on which to choose from was not easy.  There is the "Zesty Lemon" and then my other choice was the "Butter Lovers".   Well first let me talk about the first one I chose tonight (yes I had to have two), this buttery more than a pound of heaven is topping my list as my all time favorite to date.  Buttery but not over-powering, perfect toasty roll, the freshest Maine lobster.  A great investment in a top notch quality seafood dinner.

Rating: 9.1 (have to leave some room).

Lobster Roll 2014 #6

July 9, 2014, Fishermen's Catch, Raymond, ME

Shortly after arriving at our vacation destination for the week, we decided to head out to get our groceries for the week. On our way to the store, our stomachs rumbled and we passed by Fishermen's Catch.  We decided no better time than the present to stop for some seafood.

I opted for a buttered and grilled roll with buttered lobster. As Maine's traditional lobster roll is known as the "Classic", which is made with mayo, I was going against the local favorite and going for my own.

This roll ended up being great tasting, with fresh lobster and a toasty bun, however, it had a little too much butter.

Love the fresh local Maine LOBSTAH!

Lobster Roll 2014 #5

June 24, 2014, Sesuit Harbor Cafe, Dennis MA

CT Style Lobster Roll.  While in the Cape it is not common to locate a CT style roll.  This is the closest i found to date.  Not easy to find this place using maps directions on the iPhone but easy to find looking on the map. Setting was unique in a small harbor. Lobster was delicious, ask for it CT Style but just FYI it's not exactly the same, it's cold and roll isn't buttered (butter on the side) but once again the meat is delicious.

Fresh delicious lobster meat, toasty bun, beautiful scenery

Yum

Lobster Roll 2014 #4

June 22, 2014 Home made, CT

While having a craving for lobster while grocery shopping, I decided to grab some frozen meat to hold me over.  While being very easy to make, this cheap frozen meat was a little dull for my liking.  Roll was buttered as normal but frozen meat was pretty tasteless. Definitely left me craving for some fresh meat.

Presentation A +, corn A+, overall rating: 7.5

Lobster Roll 2014 #3

June 8, 2014, The Lobster Shack, Branford  CT

After a nice day volunteering at Special Olympics, my oldest and I took a ride to Branford and did a little shopping.  We worked up an appetite while shopping, so I decided to hunt down some lobster.

We made it just in the nick of time to grab a tasty bite at the Lobster Shack.  While the scenery of a local marina (Birbarie Marina) was pleasant, the beginning of dusk brought on the mosquitos.  I still managed to enjoy the fresh, lemony roll.  The roll was overall a good one, however was a little burnt and they seemed to overcompansate for the burntness with a little too much lemon.

Price was average ($15), cash only.  Might go back again if in the area to give it another shot during the afternoon without the biting friends.

Overall rating: 7.2

Lobster Roll 2014 #2

Lobster Diary: Lobster roll 2014 #2 and shrimp and corn chowder. Ok well my lobster roll eaters here is the breakdown: I am usually a fan of the hotdog bun, however, this crispy toasted baguette was a perfect addition to tasty fresh chunks of lobster meat. As I have to give #1 (yesterday's Jimmy's) now a rating of a 4 on the overall scale this one is getting an early 8. Could have had more meat and price was high but fair. Loved it

The shrimp and corn chowder was delicious too!

Lobster Roll 2014 #1

May 25, 2014, Jimmy's, West Haven CT

This was my first lobster roll of the year and I have to say it was not the best way to start out.  While having a fun night on the beach with my daughters, we decided to get a bite to eat. I was hoping to start my summer off with a great lobster roll, well it didn't work out quite as I planned it to, but you have to start somewhere.

There was a decent amount of lobster on this roll, but not the freshest of chunks.  The part that disappointed me the most was the amount of butter.  Yes, I like a buttered roll, but soggy is not what I hope to find while dining out.  The price was about average for CT, around $15, but too high for this buttery slop,

Being generous in this review as it was my first of the season, rating: 7, updated rating: 4
